For over 70 years she has evolved and adapted to new surroundings and below you will find out what writers really had in store for our favourite feline.

The Pros and Cons of Ruling the World – The Rise of Nerd-hood and its Consequences

Posted by TIM BURNSIDE on Monday, September 19, 2011, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us
Hi, if you’re reading this (and I think I can safely assume you are) you may be questioning the title saying something like “Nerds don’t rule the world at all, if anything we are a minority.” I have to disagree; minorities don’t have near the limelight we do, even if our limelight might be a little more sour than the rest. If we were a minority we would be made fun… ok maybe that’s not a good example. If we were a minority we would be seen as “weird”… ok maybe ...

The Not So Secret Origin of the DC Universe

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Thursday, September 8, 2011, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us

Or should I say MULTI-verse?

The multiverse was, er...  is a quite brilliant concept. Initially it was an invention to explain away continuity errors. There were two different Flashes, two different Green Lanterns, multiple origins and explanations for Batman, Superman and everyone in between. The answer the Silver Age DC offices came up with was that all of these versions exist simultaneously in parallel dimensions..on infinite earths.

Ultimately these explanations caused more convolu...

The Comic Book Truth Behind 2012, the Mayan Calendar and the End of the World As We Know It

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Thursday, August 11, 2011, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us
This article was never meant to be written. Strange and bizarre occurrences began the moment I started typing this piece.  At first the interruptions seemed normal; a surprise visitor here, a minor emergency there, but my suspicion that something was amiss arose when I lost all power in my house… twice.

But loss of electricity became a welcomed hassle after the late night noises and 3:00am knocks on the door (with no one there) began. Ultimately someone, or...

Is DC's Post-Flashpoint Reboot the Next Golden Age of Comics?

Posted by C.F. Arnold on Wednesday, June 8, 2011, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us
(Could this be the moments when comic books jumped the shark?)

The Golden Age of comic books started in 1938 after the release of Superman by DC Comics. Some say the basic tenants of the Golden Age were the ideal state for comic books. Things were pure in those years, but they melted away and forgotten were the likes of Jay Garrick and Alan Scott as Flash and Green Lantern. They were set aside to make way for a shiny new Silver Age starring Barry Allen and Hal Jordan as Flash and Gre...

Darwyn Cooke-How DC and Marvel must change: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgMZl0FJsx4

I watched this little rant and I kinda think I might know what Darwyn Cooke is saying and then again there is a part of me that kinda thinks Cooke just maybe isn’t hip to current continuity in the DCU.

The comment that makes you scratch your head the most is his “I don’t want to see characters who have been straight for sixty years suddenly become lesbians over night because the writers...

If Wanting a WATCHMEN SEQUEL is Wrong, I Don't Want to be Right.

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Monday, July 26, 2010, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us

On July 21 Wired.com caught up with comic book legend Alan Moore during which time he revealed that this past week DC Entertainment contacted him with an offer; write “some dopey prequels and sequels” to WATCHMEN and the rights to the genre defining property will belong soley to Alan Moore himself. This is the proverbial deal with the devil for Moore as DC seems to be the last company that he would ever do business with again. Not surprisingly, he declined their offer. N...

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Friday, July 9, 2010, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us

Early this year we made all of you comics-are-deadites aware of a feature length documentary being produced by the non-profit literary organization, Sequart, along with Respect! Films that focuses on writer Grant Morrison and how his life and personal experiences tie into his work.

This week news has broken that indie film distributor Halo-8 Entertainment has picked up the film and it is on track for a release at New York Comic-Con this October, to be ...

Is Deadpool Doomed to Die a Horrible Death?

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Saturday, May 29, 2010, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us

Not literally, but figuratively…or is it metaphorically? In any respect the question remains, will the over exposure of the Deadpool character cause a backlash that he will not be able to recover from?

I want to put it out there that I’m no hater. I’ve strived in life to never been a hater, weasel or a snitch. In researching the all important history of comic books I fear the worst for the Merc with a Mouth. I truly find the character incredibly entertaining. Deadpo...

Deep Thoughts with C.F. Arnold

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Friday, May 28, 2010, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us

There are good movies and great television, but the majority, quite honestly, is simply wretched. All different genres of novels as well as non-fiction books a plenty are available in book stores across the globe, yet decades ago Egon Spangler proclaimed that “print is dead.”  Arguably the most important info out there, whether it be in print or on screen is “news.” And how depressing is that? Typically, if it’s not bad news… it’s not news. Every passing generation...

PRESS RELEASE: MARVEL SUES THE CHILDREN OF LEGENDARY COMIC BOOK CREATOR JACK KIRBY

Posted by C.F. Arnold III on Sunday, January 31, 2010, In : Comic Books Rule the World Around Us

At first glance you may read this headline and think the Kirby estate is suing Marvel for the rights to the characters Kirby co-created, read again. MARVEL is suing Kirby's kids, not the other way around. This recent turn of events is in stark contrast to the Superman copyright, where the family of co-creator Jerry Siegel sued DC Comics and won entitlement to claim a share of the Superman cop...
